My experience as the only lady working in a team of experts in air quality systems

I have been with the same company for close to a decade and there are a couple of reasons that have contributed to our stay with this dealer. The key reason is the good work culture and the fact that they create an environment where ladies can also excel and even take up high positions. I started as a junior company who would take clients through the process of uninstalling the washable filters, cleaning them then re-installing them and controlling the temperature control. After some time shadowing the best employers while they worked, I perfected our skills in more complex processes such as duct sealing and installing ductworks. The team that integrated myself and others after I graduated from the apprentice program only had a single female who was myself. After working with the team for a year, I became the senior leader. By then, the two of us were specializing in air quality systems. This was such a good time for me, a woman leading the department. With the new position came new challenges. The gentlemen in the team did not guess in our skills in executing complex processes like the upgrade of media air cleaners. They did not guess that I knew our way around complex heat and AC products. There are times I felt like I was doing a lot to prove myself to them. I would lead the team in changing indoor air quality by executing a couple of things including keeping the air filters and HVAC ducts clean via the duct cleaning process. Despite the challenges, I would always seek to improve our skills when it came to heating pumps and media air cleaners. I now head a couple of departments at our company and I am the most recognized company at the local business.
