In the south, you need undefined

Insects and creepy-crawlies live here in astounding numbers, and almost all of them bite or sting, and last however not least, there are the hurricanes and tropical storms that hit the south several times a year, often with flooding and power outages… With all of these things laboring against your comfort levels, is it any surprise Heating and A/C systems are considered a requirement for living here? Quite frankly I don’t understand how this area was ever settled and civilized, because back then there was no Heating and A/C technology.

When you live in the deep south, there are a lot of little annoyances that you have to learn to live with; First of all, there is the heat and humidity, which is unrelenting for 9 to 10 weeks a year. The brief hints of freezing weather the two of us get are few and far between, secondly, there are the bugs. Not only was there no , however they didn’t have screened in porches or bug spray either – what a nightmare it would have been to live here! I basically keep our Heating and A/C plan running 24/7, and genuinely rarely open up any of the windows to let in fresh air. With fresh air comes more bugs, so I keep our house shut up tight to trap all of the cooling inside with me, but just a handful of times a year I need to open everything up for some natural ventilation, so the house doesn’t smell musty. I always try to do this while the two of us were in a phase of freezing weather, when I don’t need the A/C as much and there aren’t as numerous bugs out.
