I have managed a handful of rental properties for several years now, however i started doing it right after I retired, as a way to make extra money and also to keep myself busy! Retirement can be boring, so it’s nice to have hobbies, and when those hobbies make money, so much the better! Nine times out of ten, if not moreso, the guests who rent our apartments and houses are genuinely nice people, and leave the locale in the same condition they found it.
Periodically there are exhausting renters and renters, but, and recently I had one such renter, who left the entire cottage, plus the system, in exhausting condition! Apparently this man believed that systems are powered by magic, and thought they could make the locale as freezing as she wanted it to be.
She must have been on drugs, because what rational lady thinks the system can make it 32 degrees inside? When the unit wouldn’t get freezing enough, she tried to tune it up himself, with disastrous results. I know she was on drugs, but I don’t know for sure because after she ruined the central Heating and A/C plan she packed up her stuff and left in the middle of the night. I called an Heating and A/C tech I have used before to get an estimate on the cost to upgrade the unit, and then charged the debit card the renter had used for those costs, and a new Heating and A/C plan was going to cost me two thoUSnd bucks, and the renter’s card maxed out at 6 hundred bucks, so I’m screwed.
