Parents not happy I wanted to marry an HVAC technician

I grew up in a very affluent area. My father is an investment banker and my mother is a lawyer. I am used to the finer things in life that many people don’t get to experience ,such as a large home with radiant heated floors and a heated pool. We went on several vacations every year and my family never really stressed about money. My parents always told me that they wanted me to marry rich one day so I can continue my lifestyle. I always thought they were kidding around until I met my fiance, Joe. Joe has been working as an HVAC technician for ten years. He is passionate about his job because he likes to help people with their heating and cooling needs. Joe and I met when my air conditioning stopped working in my house. I noticed how handsome he was of course, but he was so kind and that is what made me the most interested in him. Joe and I have been together for three years and he recently proposed. He could not afford to get me a huge diamond ring because his job as an HVAC technician does not pay enough for that. I did not care about having a huge ring, I was just so happy to marry Joe. However, my parents were not thrilled when we got engaged. My Dad kept saying that I should marry someone who does something more important than just fixing air conditioning all day. I tried to explain to my Dad that Joe’s job is very important as an HVAC technician. Not having air conditioning or heat can be life or death in some situations and he helps people. My dad wants me to marry rich, but I will marry my favorite HVAC technician.
