The plan really never was to stay as long as we did up north.
My wife and I met down south where I’m from and where she came to work.
We shared the same commercial HVAC of the same office building. But we didn’t work for the same company. We worked on different floors. Yet the first time we laid eyes on one another in the elevator, there was something magic there. I can’t describe it all that well but it was incredible. We both took our lunch outside of the air conditioning in a little park two blocks away. This place is like a little oasis right in the middle of downtown. And there is rarely anyone sharing that space. That’s how we met and started getting to know each other by having lunch outside the air conditioning and in the sunshine. It wasn’t but 18 months later before we were married. My wife really excelled at what she was doing inside that commercial HVAC. Me, on the other hand, I wasn’t so pleased with an office life and my job sort of ground me down. That’s why it was easy to say yes to following my wife to a new job way up north. Actually, we moved very near where she grew up. I immediately went to work from home freelancing and built up a business that didn’t require me to work in an office. But man, those Winters were brutal and the gas furnace never seemed to provide me with the heating I needed. So when my wife informed me that she had the option to return to the south, I had my bags packed and ready. I was so ready for the land of sunshine and heat pumps again.
