When I started getting major problems with my a/c unit, I already knew I wanted a new one. My AC component was nearly fifteen years old, which is the average life of a common AC unit. I did own one that lasted longer, however it was an anomaly. It lasted for almost twenty two years, & I never had any major breakdowns. My friend Cal and I had a few that were normal, like a broken fan blade, needing the coolant filled up & my personal negligence in changing air filters. This was the worst complication Cal and I had with the a/c… Forgetting to change the air filter caused an airflow problem. Cal and I ended up needing some repairs done, & Cal and I also had to have the HVAC duct cleaned. I assumed the HVAC duct needed to be deep-cleaned for several years, & noticed a large change in the smell & feel of the air flow once the HVAC duct cleaners left. When the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro arrived to inspect the AC unit, he told me he could repair the AC unit. I told him I didn’t want any further repairs made. I wanted a new a/c unit. He looked at me like I was crazy. After saying that I knew how old the AC component was, & I knew this was just the start, he shook his head sadly. He told me it would be a minor repair, however I knew how my airflow and power was diminishing. I wanted the new a/c component before the weather got too hot and humid to go an hour separate from a/c, let alone needing to go 2 or more afternoons.
