HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

There are some people that really love all the moderate and new technology, and while I’m not against new technology at all, I prefer the old way of life.

Now part of this is probably because of my age, I’m in my 60s and I still use a dial thermostat.

My grandkids are using smart thermostats and I don’t even know how to operate one of those things. I don’t really see the need for more thermostats, but a thermostat, as long as it changes the temperature that’s good enough for me. Out of curiosity though the next time my grandkids visited I decided to see what their smart thermostat is like and how it works. I’ve always been a very curious person so I was curious to see what it is that makes this new technology so amazing. After finally giving it a try I guess see why many people would like I’m using a smart thermostat, there is a lot of benefits to it like for example you can control your temperature remotely and so if you’re not home you can already have your temperature as pre-programmed to be exactly what you sent them to. This is great if you have kids or if you’re looking to save money under heating and cooling bills by not running the heating and air conditioning system 24/7. I can definitely see the appeal of it however I think I’ll stick with my thermostat. It’s done great for me this whole time. I don’t see any need to change that.

After being convinced by my kids for quite some time I decided that I was going to go ahead and give us more thermostats. My kids really love all this new technology and for me, I just don’t see the need for all of it. My kids are the ages 20 and 25 and they love all this new smart technology stuff. They have Smart everything and a smartphone, smart TV and of course the smart thermostat. Last I heard even their lights they command to turn on using their voice. Maybe I’m just outdated and old fashioned but what is the purpose of all this? Now don’t get me wrong I have nothing against modern technology but I guess I’m just used to the old way of life. Why would I need to tell my house to turn on my lights? If I want to turn on the lights all I gotta do is get up and flip the switch. Same is true with adjusting the temperature on the thermostat, if I’m not happy with my current temperature I just suggested. I don’t need a smart thermostat to do that for me. But since they wanted me to see what it was like so badly I decided when I went over to visit them but I would use their thermostat. I won’t deny that the smart thermostat was nice but I think I’ll still stick with my traditional thermostat, it’s been doing me well when I see no need to change that.

Yesterday was not a very good day for me.

I had just gotten a brand new window air conditioning system and placed it in my window.

This window AC unit that I had recently purchased has been doing an excellent job of keeping my home cool. I live in an arid environment and you would be amazed by how quickly things can get hot here. Being hot and sweaty here is just a way of living, at least if you don’t have a great air conditioning system. I have a fantastic Central AC system but unfortunately due to the heat it stopped working, it had broken down on me and since this was in the middle of the summer that the air conditioning companies were all booked up with appointments and it was going to be 3 weeks before I could get it repaired. Normally this would be horrible but I was lucky enough to have a backup, the window air conditioning system. So once I couldn’t use the central AC anymore I didn’t waste any time getting the window air conditioning system out and putting it in the window. Unfortunately, I must not have secured the window air conditioning system very well because during the middle of the night it fell out of the window. I had it in my second story bedroom window and it had fallen out and was instantly broken from the fall. I was very unhappy about this but thankfully since I had just purchased it I was able to get it replaced. I can’t wait until I can repair my cooling system.

Have you ever tried a washable air filter? I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never tried to wash what air filter because I think there are plenty of people out there that have never even heard of them.

So if you’re one of those people and you’ve never heard of a washable air filter do you know what it is, of course you don’t you’ve never heard of it! I’ll explain it for you, it’s very simple: a washable air filter is an air filter that can be reused.

Sounds great doesn’t it? Why spend all that money buying all those disposable air filters when you can just simply use a washable air filter. Using a washable air filter is after all in my opinion easier than using a disposable air filter, the reason is that instead of spending all that money on it multiple disposable air filters you could just buy a few washable air filters and be set for quite some time. The downside is that a washable air filter is more expensive than a disposable air filter, but you can reuse a washable air filter so I think it’s worth the price. So how do you clean a washable air filter? Well that’s really easy too as the name implies you can wash the air filter, or you could just use a vacuum cleaner to suck out all the dust and dirt that the air filter has caught within it. I switched to using washable air filters recently and I’m very happy with this switch that I have chosen to make. Now that I’ve started using washable air filters I can’t see myself going back.
