I can’t even guess that I waited so long to update the air filter.

• I had very needed to update the air filter for the past month and it seems like no matter how strenuous I had tried to get it done, it’s like I was never getting around to it! Finally, I just set a reminder for myself and wrote the date on the calendar and circled it to make sure that I wouldn’t forget.

I keep my calendar on the back of my study room door and so I typically look at it to see what task I have planned out for that afternoon. I was also looking forward to doing all kinds of activities when I got up this morning and then I looked at my calendar and I saw that I had the air filter to change. It was an additional thing that I had not planned on doing because I forgot about it but it was no big deal and I was gleeful to change the air filter because I knew that it very needed it! So I went and I took a mini trip down to the local heating and AC supplier and picked up the air filter that I needed. I did not have any air filters on hand at the loft and so I purchased one from the heating and AC company. It wasn’t any kind of expensive air filter like a washable air filter or a HEPA filter, it was just your official disposable air filter. But it was also enough for me. It did the task of keeping my indoor air quality clean and that is what matters. I finally changed it out that evening and now hopefully I should have a wonderful indoor air quality for at least a good few months.

The first air conditioning system device that I got was the best one, and this was surprising because after shopping around for AC systems for a while I thought that I had planned out what air conditioning system device that I was going to get. I thought I knew what I wanted but it turned out I was wrong. But I purchased an air conditioning system device online. I accidentally purchased the wrong one. It wasn’t until I got this same AC component in the mail that I discovered that I was very much happier with my accidental purchase and the one that I was going to get. This is because my current air conditioning system device had some features that the one I was going to buy did not have. I know because I decided to buy the one I was going to originally get to compare the two of them and see which one I liked better, but what I liked about this cooling system that I was keeping was that the AC got much cooler than the original cooling system. It was significant that I observed a sizable difference when I came to clean the inside of my house… My loft was a lot more chilly and comfortable because of this. It also did not take me any time to figure out that this was the air conditioning system device that I was going to stick with and I was glad to have this AC unit. I am really blissful that I decided to keep it because at first when I accidentally purchased the wrong one I was considering sending it back, but after seeing how good it is that I am blissful that I am keeping it and had decided to provide it a try; however, now I have two separate air conditioning system devices that I can enjoy.

Soon, I may be regretting selling the family home and moving down here to the land of the heat pump.

This is my first full Summer down here and I’m a bit scared. It’s May and there are days where the heat and humidity feel like the worst that the weather could deliver back home. And again, it’s just May. Like the folks around here are out soaking up every moment of being outside while they can. Soon, the heat and humidity level will be such that there’s more time spent inside the central air conditioning for sure. I understand that it gets so hot that going to play golf during the peak heating hours of the day is a death wish for a fat guy like me. So we’ll have to see if indeed moving down here was the right call. But it’s not like we’re going home because we sold that home. It was our family home for just shy of 32 years. We lucked out and got to retire almost a decade early so having a great, big house made zero sense. The realtor was a close friend and we just followed the list of projects we needed to get done in order to garner a great price. First on the list was replacing the old HVAC equipment. Thanks to 3 decades of HVAC maintenance twice a year, we were on the original residential HVAC that came with the house. The new residential HVAC was quite something though. I couldn’t believe the evolution in HVAC technology.

It really wasn’t tough at all but wow, I really feel good about being prepared for Summer.

• And I actually did it this time.

Normally, I might talk a big game when it comes to prepping the house in order to save on air conditioning costs. Where I live, there really is no Winter prep per se. For sure, I have the HVAC professionals come out to do the heating maintenance on the residential HVAC. But that’s it really. And even then, the heat pump might provide some heating a handful of times all season. So no, prepping the house isn’t a Winter thing. For us, it’s a Summer thing. Anytime you seal up a house well, it can only add efficiency to the heating and cooling equipment. Down here, it’s all about saving money on all the air conditioning that comes with a long, grueling heat season. The temperatures can stay in the way upper 90’s for the entire period. A rainy day is sort of a brief miracle and inspires me to walk outside in the rain. So really, all I had to do was go online to the HVAC company’s website. They had the whole house prepping thing all laid out in very clear terms. Shoot, they even included a shopping list to reference at the hardware store. I also had the air conditioning tune up done early in March this year as well. I’m still sort of in awe that, for once, I’m actually ready to roll into Summer with the least bit of confidence that I won’t get killed on cooling costs. Of course, I’ll still have to be consistently disciplined when it comes to the thermostat setting. But I don’t think that will be a problem.
