HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

So the last couple of years have not exactly been super comfortable inside my home.

• But, that was actually preferable to living in an apartment.

When my house became available, it was a now or never moment and I went all in. For what seems like forever, I’ve been saving so I could have a mortgage instead of paying rent. Along with the usually overwhelmed and outdated HVAC equipment, I hated not building any equity while renting. This was so important to me. But I also was just ready to not have to share walls with anyone that wasn’t inside my home. The house I was able to buy is perfect space-wise and location. I have a yard and live in a nice neighborhood. But the house was really worn out even though it’s structurally in great shape. Yet, it was an as is situation and if I bought it, all the renovations would be up to me. There was no way I was going to beat that price so I took the leap. And with that leap has come with it a new level of patience. When it comes to working on this house, I could only do what I could afford. I wasn’t into borrowing a bunch of money just so I could get it all done more quickly. That said, I also saved a bunch of money by doing a bunch of the work myself. The basic renovations were finally capped off this Spring when the HVAC equipment was replaced. It was a very old central air conditioning situation and I had to entire thing replaced. New ductwork went with the new heat pump. At least this Summer, I’m going to be the most comfortable I’ve ever been in my adult life.

There was supposed to be some kind of musical performance occurring in a few days, I remember seeing a poster about it.

I have never been into musicals, just not my kind of thing, but I know others who absolutely adore them. Anyways, I didn’t think I would end up heading to the theater, but I ended up going there anyway. Why? Because a few days before the performance was to happen, they called my HVAC company to request HVAC services. The heating and air conditioning services they were requesting was HVAC repair. Apparently their heater and air conditioner had broken down and they needed it to be repaired. Honestly it was probably a good thing it broke down now, because if it had broken during the play, that would have been a disaster. I was the heating and cooling worker sent out to deal with the mess of a HVAC system, and so I headed out in the direction of the theater. When I arrived, I couldn’t find where their HVAC machines were located, until someone showed me. From there, the repair was fairly straightforward. Someone had been neglecting cleaning and replacing the HVAC air filter, and it was horribly clogged, which was the issue. With that being taken care of, the show could go on. I delivered the good news to the staff that worked there, and left to head to my next heating and A/C appointment. Although it took me a little longer since that theater was big and packed with cars and people.

Finding a home to buy can be difficult. Just getting to the point where you could even afford a nice home is difficult in itself. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the fact that my husband and I are combining our savings to purchase a home, I don’t think I would have ever been able to buy a home on my own. Now we are looking at homes for sale, and while my husband and I have different opinions on what we would like, we agree on a few things. Must have a fenced in backyard, a screened in porch, and a pool. It wasn’t difficult finding homes with these qualities, but finding one in our price range was more difficult. I thought I had finally found our future dream home, because it not only matched everything we wanted, but it was cheap! Even cheaper than our price range, but as I called the realtor to ask about it, I soon figured out why it was so cheap. You see, the home had pretty bad extensive weather damage. The weather damage was so severe that the air ducts were completely destroyed. Without HVAC ductwork, the home could not be properly heated or cooled. Not that that would matter anyways, since the central air conditioning system also was not working inside of the home. Everything involving the HVAC equipment was messed up, and I was already seeing money signs dancing in my head at the thought of the cost of repairs. It would be too much, and so my husband and I had to move on and look for something better.

Tomorrow is yet another holiday over here on the Spanish coast.

They have more holidays here than I’ve ever seen anywhere and I think it is just great, unless I am trying to get some shopping done or need something fixed.

This is why I moved over here though, because the pace of life is less frantic than back in the States and I feel like I can take the time to slow down without feeling guilty or feeling like I am getting left behind. I work part time for a local business in town and have a lot of free time when I finish working on HVAC systems for the day at the job. Many people would call me lazy if they looked at my weekly workload, but I spend a ton of time working on the band’s projects and have no energy to put into working more for the company. I discovered long ago that heating and cooling equipment repairs were not going to cut it for me, so I changed gears from an HVAC repairman to a comedian and haven’t looked back since. It is so fun making songs and trying to come up with new sounds and it never seems to get old, and besides, women really like music. We play gigs for the new contractor in town and I’m not doing it for the women, but meeting women from music is proving to do better than Tinder and all I need is one special woman then I call it quits searching. Okay, off to clean the HEPA filter, see ya!
