HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

Soon, I may be regretting selling the family apartment plus moving down here to the land of the heat pump.

This is my first full Summer down here plus I’m a bit scared.

It’s May plus there are afternoons where the heat plus humidity feel like the worst that the weather could supply back home. And again, it’s just May, however like the folks around here are out soaking up every moment of being outside while they can. Soon, the heat plus humidity level will be such that there’s more time spent inside the central air conditioning for sure. I understand that it gets so boiling that going to play hockey during the peak heating hours of the afternoon is a death wish for a fat woman like me. So we’ll have to see if indeed moving down here was the right call. But it’s not like we’re going apartment because we sold that home. It was our family apartment for just shy of 32 years, however my buddy and I lucked out plus got to retire almost a decade early so having a great, big apartment made zero sense. The realtor was a close neighbor plus we just followed the list of projects we needed to get done in order to garner a wonderful price. First on the list was replacing the old Heating and A/C equipment. Thanks to 3 decades of Heating and A/C repair twice a year, we were on the original residential Heating and A/C that came with the house. The new residential Heating and A/C was quite something though. I couldn’t suppose the evolution in Heating and A/C technology.

Living near a lake has been Zack’s dream since he was a tiny little boy. He’d go fishing with his dad, and they always saw many lovely lake houses. Zack told his dad one day he’d live in one, and have a boat where he’d enjoy fishing every time he wanted to. Back then, it felt like such a huge dream for Zack and his dad since they weren’t wealthy. However, no dream is impossible. A year ago, Zack got an offer on his business, and he recently sold it for a healthy profit. He put part of that money into savings and investing, and some in buying a new lake house. This was a huge property that had been vacant for quite some time. So, Zack had to get a contractor to do some renovations. Another issue with the lake house was the HVAC system. It required a new central HVAC and new ductwork. The old ductwork was beyond repair after not being in use for some time. Replacing the central HVAC and the ductwork cost a small fortune but Zack knew it was worth it. He wanted all the renovations and upgrades done so he could move in. The HVAC company he hired did an excellent job of selecting the right unit with good efficiency. And they came by to install that plus, the new ductwork in the lake house. Zack plans to continue working with them and that’s why he signed up for their maintenance program. He wanted a plan that included a 24/7 emergency so he’d have assistance in case he needed it after hours.

It’s not always the best experience when you are away from home for a long time.

This is especially true when you are close with your parents and siblings.

I knew I’d miss them terribly when I went to university abroad. However, I had gotten a full scholarship in one of the best universities in the world. I would be a fool to pass up such an o;pportunity, and they all pushed me to go. I was away for 4 years, and only recently got back. Man, it feels good to be home. And, I’m back in my own room until I find work and a place to stay. Living at home feels better as an adult, and I’ve been adjusting after being away for so long. During my first week back, I had some allergy issues due to the air quality at home. I recalled mom mentioning something like bad air quality in the house. She was planning to get an air purifier, but she never placed an order. I went to see a doctor about my allergies and he told me to try using an air purifier in my home. Since this was my folks place, and it was huge, we went with four portable air purifiers in the house. That way, different parts would benefit from good air quality. Getting a whole-home air purification system would be great. But, it’s not cheap. So, for now, we will use the portable air purifiers until we have enough money for the other unit. Hopefully, I will soon get a job and I can chip in to cover the cost.
Energy saving tips

We will be entering the dog days of summer soon and everything is going to get kind of crazy here.

• In a week it will be May and that is when a lot of seasonal tourists come to town for the summer and they won’t leave till the start of September.

So it will be jumping for four months or so before everything winds down again for the winter, which is very cold and dark and the streets are pretty much barren till the next Spring rolls around. I like the winters but they can get a bit lonely and heating is a must every day as we run our HVAC system almost all of the time. The power bills can get kind of high so we try to wear more clothes in the flat so we can save a bit of money over the really cold months. Some people in this town have no heating or cooling system in their flats and I don’t know how they survive these harsh months. The summers can get really hot, hitting the 100F mark for many days, and sleeping at night with only a fan is next to impossible for me. It is still April and I am already finding myself running the air conditioner at night so I can sleep. I like to keep the flat around 72F at night, which seems like to be an ideal temp for me and my flatmate to sleep the best in. I will go to the HVAC company today and grab a new HEPA filter for the a/c system.
