HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

When we reopen our restaurant next month, the HVAC system will be better than ever before.

I am very excited about reopening, and our customers are too.

We have been closed for about a month now because we are doing major renovations. The renovations have included a brand new heating and cooling system, so I know that the indoor air quality in the building is going to be 1000 times better than it was before. We used to have some trouble with the heating and cooling system in the restaurant. That was especially true with the ventilation system. I think that it’s probably because of the fact that there is always so much grease, steam, and smoke flowing through the rooms of the restaurant all the time. We didn’t have the greatest ventilation system and so the indoor air quality in the dining area was always really bad. I know that it’s going to be a whole lot better once they finally get finished doing all of the work here on the ventilation system. We hired a commercial HVAC company to do all of the work for us and they had really great reviews. I think that they will be finished in just a couple more weeks and then we will be able to plan our grand reopening. I know that things are going to get better around here once we get the place opened back up again. We already had a really good customer base but once we have good indoor air quality again, we are going to be able to do better business.

I still can’t believe that I won the HVAC company raffle a few months ago.

I never win anything! This was honestly the first time that this kind of thing has ever happened to me at all.

The way that it came about was really weird for me, too. I ended up going into the HVAC office one day when I was off of work. I was simply out shopping around for a new smart thermostat unit that day and while I was in the HVAC showroom, I saw that they were holding a raffle. This HVAC raffle is apparently something that they do every single year and every year they give away a really good prize. Last year, they gave away a whole home air purification system and a lady from the next town over won it. This year, the grand prize was a brand new high efficiency HVAC system, which was exactly what I needed for my house. My old HVAC system was on its last legs, so to speak. I knew that I was eventually going to need to buy a new HVAC system, but I wasn’t quite ready to do that then. I also didn’t have enough money saved up for that kind of thing, either. Whenever I went into the HVAC showroom that day, I was only planning to find a new thermostat for the house, but I ended up buying a couple of raffle tickets for their yearly HVAC raffle. To everyone’s surprise, including my own, I won the new high efficiency HVAC unit! With that, plus the new smart thermostat that I purchased, my home’s heating, cooling and ventilation system was all updated.

That’s what I have figured out, anyway.

Over the past few years, I have finally gotten comfortable with living in and owning my own house. This is the first time that I have ever owned a home of my own and so I am still relatively new to all of the things that come along with it! I mean, I don’t know anything about landscaping or plumbing and electricity or the HVAC system in my house. I honestly don’t know much about anything at all when it comes to home repairs of any kind. So whenever the furnace stopped working correctly a few weeks ago, I really had no idea at all what could be wrong with it. I immediately started to think the worst because it’s still the middle of winter. Around here, you can’t go very long at all without a working furnace during the winter! We have really cold weather here during the winter and I personally am not super used to the weather at all since I have not lived here for long. Anyway, when I thought that the furnace was broken, I basically panicked at first. It’s because I was afraid that I was going to have to buy a brand new furnace and I didn’t have the money to fix it right away. I was having a bit of a panic attack about it and that’s when someone told me that I should check the thermostat unit. It turned out that the only thing that was wrong was that I needed a new battery in my thermostat!

• They always had the furnace blasting during the winters and it was way too hot inside the classrooms all the time.

I don’t understand why in the world they thought that it was a good idea to blast the heating system so much in a building full of teenagers! We were already annoyed and stressed out enough as it was. With the heating going full blast all the time on top of everything else, it was just too much to deal with. I remember trying to stay awake after lunch in my geology class and it was next to impossible because my desk was right next to the heating vent. The janitor at the school was the person who was supposedly in charge of setting the thermostat in all of the different buildings. For the life of me, though, I can’t figure out why in the world they would have put that guy in charge of the thermostat settings. He seemed to be a pretty dumb guy to me, especially when it came to temperature settings for a bunch of teenage kids! He just didn’t know what he was doing. I feel like school would have been a lot better back then if we all could just feel more comfortable in the building. Even though the building was really old even back then, the furnace was still in really good shape! The furnace system worked better than anything else in the building did!
