HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

My fiance was pretty hyped about meeting my family, but I wasn’t nearly as hyped as he was.

I tried to talk him into not meeting my family, but it wasn’t working. He insisted we go to my family’s for dinner and enjoy ourselves. I looked at him and asked that he said nothing about being an HVAC technician. After a few chuckled, he kissed me and told me I worried too much. We were barely in the house when my mother nearly tackled me. I hadn’t seen her in a couple of months, and it surprised her I had finally made it home. She asked who the handsome man was, and I told her this was the boyfriend I had told her about. He grabbed my arm and asked why I didn’t tell her he was my fiance. It was for the same reason I didn’t want him to say he was an HVAC technician. My mother was an opportunist, and if she could use someone, she would. When my sister showed up, she nearly gushed over my fiance. She told him what big muscles he had and said she wished she had met him first. Mark blushed, but he assured me he wasn’t interested. I was working with my brother last year, when we were called to an old house to make repairs to their HVAC system.

We didn’t know anyone lived in that house, and thought they had abandoned it years ago.

We used to throw rocks at the windows when we were kids. I gave no thought to how the windows got repaired, but someone had done it. My brother told me to put on my big boy HVAC uniform and go with him. He wasn’t sure what we would encounter, but if it was a huge repair, it would need two HVAC technicians. When we got to the house, the most beautiful girl I had ever seen opened the door. She invited us in and told us her grandparents owned the house, but they had recently put them in a nursing home. She wanted to have the HVAC system repaired or replaced. When we got into the basement, she showed us the HVAC system. We looked at each other, and I asked my brother if he was sure this was an HVAC system? He shrugged and said he did not know, but if it was an HVAC system, it was unlike anything he had ever seen before. I worried about how we were going to repair or replace this old relic, but my brother told me not to worry. At the very worst, we could disassemble the old furnace and replace it with a new one. There was no air conditioning, so installing new air conditioning was going to be a simple task, as long as the ductwork was in good shape. If not, then we could install ductless. HVAC.

I went up to a house last week and rang the doorbell.

I tried to show him my ID badge, but he couldn’t see it. I tried to tell him it was the HVAC technician, but he couldn’t understand what I was saying. I called the HVAC company and asked for the customer’s phone number. I sat in the service van and called the customer. When I told the customer I was sitting in the service van outside the house, he wanted to know why I hadn’t rung the doorbell. When I told him I had and what had happened, he told me to come to the door. He was waiting inside, and I showed him my ID badge and asked if I could come in. He apologized and said he couldn’t hear me without a lot of static and the camera wasn’t very good either. I went into the house, and he showed me to the furnace room. When I made the repairs to the furnace, I went upstairs to tell him about the furnace. Instead of discussing the bill, we were discussing his new security system. He told me not to buy a cheap one like he had, because it didn’t work nearly as well as what he thought it would. I knew what not to buy, and now I had to figure out what to buy. I realized I had been done with the furnace for almost an hour, and I still hadn’t discussed the HVAC bill with him.

I spent two years going back and forth between my friends and sleeping on their couches.

My dad told me I had to get out of the house, or get a job, and I left.

I was 22 at the time and thought I was living the life. My mom was cleaning, doing my laundry, and feeding me. I got money from mom so I could go out on dates, buy personal items, or have fun with my friends. When dad realized how much money I was getting, he put his foot down. He told me my free ride was over, and I had a choice. I packed my bags and had been sleeping on my friend’s couches ever since. A couple of months ago, three of my friends told me their wives didn’t want me hanging out at their house and mooching off them. My oldest friend told me he couldn’t handle me hanging out on his couch anymore. He needed his privacy. He told me to find some place else. I had already exhausted all my options, and I knew it was time to grow up and get a job. I looked into the get rich quick programs, but they didn’t seem kosher. I ended up going to school for HVAC and came out fourteen months later, as a certified HVAC technician. Luckily, my girlfriend allowed me to live with her as long as I was going to HVAC school. My parents were so proud of me they offered to pay for my wedding, even though being an HVAC technician made a wedding affordable for me, as long as we didn’t go all out.
