HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

Auntie Tabitha called me to tell me that she would visit for nearly two weeks.

I was both excited and terrified at the same time.

I was excited because it meant spending time with her and doing fun things. We even had a hike planned, but on the other hand, I was terrified. She was hell-bent on setting me up on dates because she claimed I worked too much and did not have a social life. Auntie Tabitha was almost right, but I would never admit it in her presence. The day she arrived, there was an HVAC professional from homeowner solutions. He had come to perform a heat pump service. Before I got the HVAC, Tabitha suggested I get a dual-fuel system just like the one she replaced her electric furnace with, but since I lived in a warmer climate, the heating contractor had suggested duct-free heating equipment. Auntie Tabitha met the heating technician on the driveway as she was coming in while he was going to the HVAC supplier truck. From the window, I saw my aunt talking to him and knowing her, and I was confident that it had nothing to do with quality heating or a furnace/heater tune-up. A week later, I was seated across the table with the same tech from the local heating business that my aunt thought was charming from the few seconds she talked to him on my driveway. Later that evening, my aunt was waiting by the door so that I could tell her how my date went. When we were growing up, our home had an electric furnace, and my father actively took care of it by changing the filter and cleaning the parts we could since we did it together.

It was our bonding time when he was not busy with work. I loved every minute of it. He would ask about school and everything else in my life. We knew some years back that we would not be able to have children due to various health complications. It only became real when her belly started growing. After it all sank in, I next brought in a contractor to find out how we would add more rooms and bathrooms. Instead of separate rooms, the contractor suggested a big enough room for three to have their own space. We also needed to add two bathrooms. The next thing was the type of heating equipment to install for quality heating in the new additions. Even though our electric furnace was unique, we were still determining if it would serve two extra bedrooms and bathrooms. By the time my wife was two weeks due, we were done with all the construction and installations by the HVAC supplier. That year we celebrated Thanksgiving Day at our house, and my mother’s only brother and his family were present.

The discussion on heating equipment began when my mother reminded his brother about the house they both lived in when they started working. The house had an electric furnace for heating, but the summers were not so pleasant because the a/c was constantly breaking down, and they only had one portable fan. My uncle finally moved out to his studio apartment, and he was working as an HVAC technician by then. It was after his skills at the homeowner solutions business had improved and he was able to fix my mother’s a/c. My mother gave me a murderous look, but my uncle calmed her down and said he would get the quality heating equipment running in no time. Once we finished dinner, my uncle went ro work on the heating device, and in no time, he had restored indoor comfort.
