Animal safety from the cold

I am one of the most soft hearted people you will ever meet when it comes to animals.

It doesn’t matter the type, with the exception of snakes… Even at that, I will not harm them unless they are poisonous plus in my territory.

At any rate, I try plus make the lives of most creatures, wild or domestic, as comfortable as possible. Heck, my pal and I even buy big bags of cracked corn plus birdseed to feed all the wildlife that stop in the yard all winter time long, but the weather this winter time has been really extreme. I let my own pets out for just a few moments at a time, just long enough to finish their supplier plus come back into the heated environment. Now, I know I can’t do this for everyone, but, I am trying to feel of a way for the wild turkeys that come each day to go into my aged chicken coop. I no longer have chickens plus it would be shelter for them. I even have heat lamps out there so they could be overheated during the long frigid mornings. They could come plus go as they satisfied, have a food source, plus be able to overheated up a bit. I just feel sorry for them resting out in the ice plus snow each day. My hubby may not appreciate the increase in the electric bill from running heat lamps in the coop all the time plus that is undoubtedly my only reason for not doing that. I am glad that my own animals have a comfortable place to live. They have the benefit of a fantastic Heating as well as A/C system plus are not subjected to the environment all day long.

Turn the temperature down!

A news story broke the other morning that has people talking everywhere in our area.

The local gas company had a concern with one of their supply lines and they were requesting that all residential and small businesses turn their control units down by five degrees to conserve resources.

That is all well and wonderful if you don’t have young children or elderly people residing in your home, we have both! As things would have it, my Mom was widowed last year and can no longer live on his own. He gets around ok, but, he tends to not take care of his health, finances, and upkeep on his surroundings anymore. He was particularly dependent upon our mom to do these things for him. Now, we have him, along with our three young children to care for. I can’t imagine turning the temperature down, one a cold winter time night, only to have many people end up complaining or sick. Mind you, it would be great for the utility bill as heating our home with our seasoned Heating and Air Conditioning system can be particularly extravagant, although I don’t recognize it is worth the health risk. Besides, who knows how long this maintenance will take and how many afternoons we would have to endure the lower temperature. I recognize if no one complies, we could have it go out all together, although I am willing to take that chance at this point. So far, it has been four afternoons! I hope that they announce everything is back to normal soon. They said it is the first time in their 44 year history that they have had to make such a request.

Using twice the fuel as normal

With the recent cold conditions my buddy and I have been experiencing my buddy and I are worried about getting out monthly bills next month.

My great friend and I keep adjusting the temperature control however the drafts that blow through the house are making it really hard to keep warm. Even the outlets on the wind side of the house seem to blow cold air into the study room. When my buddy and I first purchased the house, my buddy and I did some minor improvements, painting the walls, putting up new shutters, and doing some landscaping. Mostly cosmetic improvements. I now wish my buddy and I would have spent the extra money to have the insulation in the walls, windows, and such bumped up at that time. My great friend and I could have saved the money on paint however dealt with the mess when the house was still empty. Now, my buddy and I will be stuck either opening the walls or having that blown in insulation installed. Both of these processes will mean making repairs to the drywall and repainting, both of which I am dreading. My great friend and I can’t continue to just pay higher bills each winter time so I don’t see any other option. To make it through the rest of this season, my buddy and I have blocked off unused rooms, put draft protectors in front of the doors, and even put that plastic motion picture over the windows. None of this is really wonderful, but, it will help a little anyways. I even went to the hardware store and found little foam boards to install behind the electric plates. This is an inhigh-priced way to block some of the cold. I hope that my buddy and I can come up with the money for a more permanent solution in the Spring.

Fall fishing trip

I am absolutely gleeful to be heading to the state park for a fishing trip in two weeks.

It has been a absolutely taxing summer time and I absolutely need to get away.

The idea of laying by the water with a fishing pole in hand, soaking up the sun, and enjoying the view, seems like perfection to me. My associate and I are going with my husband’s aunt and uncle for a three afternoon trip. The only thing I am upset about is the weather. The long range forecast is calling for sun and mid 72’s during the afternoon but mid 50’s at night. The property my associate and I are renting has no heat other than the fireplace. I am used to my Heating and Air Conditioning system that keeps me cool or sizzling depending on the weather. I feel I am spoiled in that I can control my home’s temperatures with the push of a button. My associate and I even have Smart Thermostats which means that my associate and I can change the temperature while my associate and I are away with our PCs. Being addicted to technology makes it difficult to imagine trying to keep the fire going through the night to stay warm. Although I am greatly looking forward to spending time with my husband in the quiet surroundings. I am upset about the other parts of the trip. I will make the best of it I am sure as my associate and I do not get this chance to escape absolutely often. Hoping to catch some fish and at least be able to have a fresh fish dinner one of the mornings… That is always a treat.
