HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

We’re looking at sunny skies and 85F already, and it is only 8am.

• I bet we hit close to 100F in the afternoon today with the heat index taken into account.

Today is a good day to check my HVAC system to make sure everything is okay with it. I have a digital thermometer to measure the air coming from the vents to see if it is within the range it should be. I think the temperature from the air conditioning’s vents should be about twenty degrees lower than the ambient temperature in the room but don’t quote me on that. If the air isn’t that cold then most likely the system is dirty and maybe the filter needs cleaning too. I know that the condenser grill on the air handler gets a lot of dust and grime on it, which makes the HVAC cooling system lose its cooling capabilities. This, in turn, causes the system to run a lot longer to cool down the house, costing you more money in power bills. And on hot days like this the house never seems to get cold enough for me, so I am going to nip it in the bud and make sure the system is clean and working at maximum efficiency. I have some free time today because it is way too hot out to do anything and I am on vacation for two more weeks here with not a lot to do. I’m at my dad’s house and he has two large commercial air conditioners to keep the house cool.

I am a big foodie. I really love food, and I am always interested in trying different foods. So whenever I spot a place I haven’t been before, of course I want to go and try them out. When my wife and I were making our usual trips, I happened to spot a small diner that I hadn’t noticed before. This piqued my curiosity, and so I made a detour to get a closer look. The place was open and looked nice. It was getting closer to dinnertime to begin with, so I asked my wife if she would be okay with eating at this new place. She was fine with the idea, and so we went and placed our orders. Their food was incredible, but especially their chicken. Their chicken had so many different spices on it, it was incredible tasting. One of the other things I couldn’t ignore was how great it felt to be in that small diner. It felt really cool. Not cold, but cool. I actually noticed that when I first walked in, I felt a nice breeze brush across my face. I credit it to their good commercial air conditioning. Speaking of commercial HVAC, I actually was almost directly under an A/C vent, so I was getting a lot of cool air. My wife was on the opposite side of me, so she wasn’t getting the cold air. This worked out perfectly, because she doesn’t like to sit under air conditioner vents anyway. Between the great HVAC and food, this place is definitely on my list of places to visit again.

The weather in my area is quite unpredictable.

Honestly I am quite used to this weather, so it doesn’t really bother me as much as it used to. However, the unpredictable weather has proven to have its own challenges. You see, I am very picky when it comes to climate control. Anything involving the heating and air conditioning system I am quite picky about using. The reason is because I see heating and A/C as a luxury, and not a necessity. So for something that is merely a luxury, it is quite a costly one. I try not to use the central air conditioner or heating system all that much because of how much money it costs. When I lived up north, this was not a problem. I was able to adjust the central heating device as I pleased, since the temperatures often stayed the same. However, I was in for a big surprise when I moved here, because it was so different! The rapidly changing temperatures caused me to keep turning on the cooling or heating part of my component, just to keep my home cooled or heated. It was incredibly frustrating, because I felt like it was happening more and more often. Nowadays though, I have the perfect solution. Now whenever the temperature is not superb, I will usually whip out my phone and change the thermostat without even getting up. This amazing technology is a smart thermostat, which allows you to control the thermostat from your phone. It truly is incredible, and useful.

Something I really hate is unpredictable weather patterns and temperature drops.

However, when you live in the south it is actually quite common for things like this to happen. It drives me crazy, because that means I have to continually fret over the heating and air conditioning unit. Why? I worry about the heating and A/C unit because if it suddenly decides to be really cold one day, I will usually still have the central air conditioner on inside my home, which means not only will my house be ice cold, but it is a major waste for the air conditioning component as well. This has bothered me for awhile, because to put it simply, I have this happen quite often. However, not all hope was lost, because there were a few things I could do. See, the main issue is that I am away from my home for a good part of the day. So I could leave in the morning and it could be cold, which means I would leave the central heating system on. But by afternoon, it could be scorching hot, and then my home would be horribly overheated. Not anymore, with a smart thermostat, I can control the HVAC unit from my phone. So if I am at work and I see the temperatures drastically increase or decrease, then all I gotta do is grab my phone and use the app to control the HVAC machine and change it to whatever temperature I feel like. This is the perfect solution and the thermostats aren’t even very expensive.
