HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

Out of all the decades, I think I miss the 90s the most.

The whole decade was a marvelous time when we would play basketball, have water fights in summer, and just enjoy our days living in this wonderful country. We would always have summertime cookouts with some of the best food prepared by skilled cooks in our families. I always enjoyed burgers and hotdogs myself, I couldn’t get enough of them! Of course, you couldn’t go wrong with some delicious steak with some mashed potatoes and baked beans on the side either. We had awesome music in the 90s as well and we had decent HVAC systems too. The HVAC systems seemed more simple back then, but of course we still had regular HVAC maintenance to keep those systems running strong. We actually had a central HVAC during that time and I feel that we were lucky for that. I actually had buddies who liked to spend time at our home hanging out often because our cooling system was so nice. All they had back at home were some window AC units that didn’t work nearly as well as a central HVAC system. I would go over to their homes to hang out, but not nearly as often. It did feel a little overheated and uncomfortable. I was happy for one of my friends when he at least got a window AC unit in his room. It wasn’t so bad hanging out at his place when he had that. We would play video games for hours on end, a lot of us friends would have competitions playing games like Street Fighter. Oh man, those were the days.

 

New air conditioning information

I think I was the happiest kid alive when I got the drum set I asked for during the Christmas holiday.

• The thing is, the drum set was noisy so I had to use it in the garage after my father helped me to soundproof the garage.

Previously, my father only used a portable heater in there to keep the garage warm while he was working there. But now that I was in there practicing my drums all the time, he had me help him install a ductless mini split in there. It was a single zone system, but it really cranked out the heating energy and kept that garage nice and toasty. The beautiful thing was this system was so energy efficient that there was hardly a noticeable difference in the energy bills. That was a good thing because I was out there all the time playing my drums with the ideal temperature control settings. I got really good in a short amount of time. Eventually, some of my friends enjoyed my skills so much and they ended up telling everybody to come out to hear me play. Eventually, I got with a band of similar minded fellows who became my best buddies. We all practiced a lot but mostly in my garage since it was soundproofed. Eventually, we all bought a house together with a huge basement where we practiced regularly. We have done numerous gigs around the region, but typically in places with good climate control. We aren’t famous or anything. It’s more of a hobby than a career as we all have our own work that we do. I’m an HVAC professional now and I enjoy my work, but of course I love jamming with my buddies the most.

Lately at the office, I have been feeling miserable.

It’s not because of the work we have been doing, but rather it’s the lack of cooling.

About a week ago, the AC system suddenly started having trouble cooling down the office environment. The management seemed to not care, and I figured that was because they had their own portable AC systems in their offices. The rest of us have to deal with the overheated conditions and were expected to keep up with productivity. Everybody was sluggish though thanks to the nearly non-existent AC in the building. We eventually started complaining and finally the management said they would look to find a good HVAC company to take care of the AC issue. Well, they have been taking their sweet time because we have yet to see an HVAC technician in the building. I don’t know how much longer this is going to take to be honest, but I’m not sure if I can keep going into the office knowing that I’m going to be overheated and sluggish for the whole shift. I think I might have to take some vacation time or something until this issue is fixed. I know a few of my co-workers already did that and they said they truly hope the AC system will be repaired and working again by the time they come back to work. Of course, if I don’t ask to use my vacation time soon, they won’t let me because too many others are using their vacation time. I guess I’ll be speaking with the boss again soon.

I honestly have been fed up with everything we have been dealing with in the past few years.

I think the worst thing though is the rising gas prices and the fact that I was still using an oil furnace! The cost of oil went up so high this past winter season, I thought we weren’t going to make it to be honest.

We had some scary times with our finances but we had to continue filling up the oil furnace and it cost us a small fortune. I finally decided that I wanted to convert to a gas furnace. While gas is going up in general, it’s still better than using oil. I consulted with an HVAC technician and he recommended going for a dual-fuel heating system. He said it would be a combination gas furnace working along with a heat pump to provide all the heating and cooling we needed in the house. The system was kind of expensive, but the energy efficiency made it worth it! So far I have only used the cooling system but it has been working great. I can’t wait to see how energy efficient the heating system is. From what the HVAC experts told me, the heat pump will provide heating all the way down to 40 degrees fahrenheit and then the gas furnace will kick on when the temperatures fall below that. From the savings I have had on the cooling of my home, I bet I’m going to save big money in the winter season too! I also expect the heating in the home to be super comfortable.
