HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

Whenever I was growing up, my dad never fixed anything around the house at all.

He just was not one of those guys who ever learned how to fix anything and so he would always pay someone else to do it.

I grew up thinking that that’s how you got things fixed. I never really knew that you actually had the option to fix things yourself unless you were a professional. However, whenever I got married to my husband it was the exact opposite. When he was a kid, his dad taught him to fix all kinds of things around the house. When we moved in together, It was a totally different story from what I was used to. If something were to tear up around the house, my husband immediately started to work on it himself. He refused to pay anyone else to fix anything for him. This included everything from the plumbing to the heating and air conditioning system. The last time our central air conditioning system tore up on us, I was convinced that our entire A/C unit was going to have to be replaced. I was ready to just call the local HVAC company and have them come out to fix the air conditioning system, but then my husband showed up with his toolbox and got down to business. He worked on the air conditioning system and by the time he was done, it was totally fixed. I couldn’t believe it and now I’m really glad that my husband knows what he’s doing around the house!

It’s a really good thing that the air conditioning repairs were covered under warranty.

• I couldn’t believe that our central air conditioning unit tore up on us the way that it did last month.

I don’t know what it is about our heating and cooling system, but it always seems to tear up at the worst possible times. See, the weather was just beginning to heat up, and that’s when the air conditioning decided to stop working. I knew that we needed to get it fixed, but I was afraid that it was gonna cost us a small fortune to do the repair work on it. However, there is no way that I was going to be able to live through the summer without an air conditioning system either. I called the HVAC company and made an appointment for them to do a preliminary estimate for a repair for us. when they came to the house and told me how much it was going to cost, I nearly choked. Then the HVAC technician told me that he thought that it might be covered under warranty because our air conditioning system was a relatively new unit. I called the number that was on the outside of the unit and sure enough, our air conditioning system was still covered under warranty! I couldn’t believe it, and I was so happy that he reminded me about it. I didn’t remember that we even had a warranty on the air conditioning system! Thank goodness that the HVAC technician reminded me about it that day!

My A/C system broke a couple of weeks ago and I just don’t think that I am going to be able to work from home without it.

I have been working from home for a couple of months because I just haven’t been able to get into the office.

It has been really nice to work from home for awhile, but now that the weather is heating up outside, I don’t know that I’m going to be able to stay here because of the lack of air conditioning. I find it very hard to concentrate if I am too warm, and since the temperatures are only going to be going up from here on out throughout the summer, it’s just going to be an issue if my A/C doesn’t start working correctly. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not dumb. I know that it is not going to start working on its own all by itself. I messed around with that a little bit, but I don’t really know what I’m doing when it comes to heating and cooling technology. I called up the local heating and cooling company, but they aren’t able to fit me into their schedule for three weeks or something like that! They told me that they are completely booked solid with all of the air conditioning tune ups that they are trying to get done before summer. I guess the A/C tune ups are more important than the A/C repairs at this point. I may end up having to go into the office after all, because I just don’t think that I can work from home with a broken air conditioning.

I really don’t think that I would be able to live here without my central A/C and that is a fact.

• I have been living in the southern part of the country for a long time now, and the climate is really nothing to joke about.

We don’t really have seasons at all, except for winter and summer. The temperatures during the summer around here are burning hot, and if you don’t have central air conditioning, then you better just settle in for a long miserable five months. I have been living here most of my life, and I don’t know anyone who has been here very long who does not have central air conditioning. If you don’t have central air conditioning, then you at least have a window unit air conditioning system installed in your bedroom so that you won’t melt away during the middle of the night. In my opinion, if you don’t want to pay for a central cooling system, then you probably should not be living down here. Opening the windows around here is just not an option. The air is so hot and muggy that you’re always covered in sweat. I think that the humidity is the worst part of it all. Even if you weren’t running your air conditioning system to make the air feel cooler, you would need to run it to get rid of the humidity. If I was not able to afford central air conditioning, then I would definitely be finding another place to live. There’s no way that I could stay here throughout the summer without it.
