The benefits of choosing HVAC as a career

I had my heart set on going to college, until I found out how much it cost to go to college.

  • The teachers and counselors at school never mentioned that part, they just told me how important it was to develop my mind and lay the groundwork for a great career.

Once I started doing the research and saw how much it would cost me, I had to rethink things. No matter how valuable that education was, how could I afford to live when I would graduate with a hundred thousand dollars in debt? I looked at other options, and the trade school for HVAC certification program really caught my attention. A little market research showed me that the base starting pay for a new HVAC technician was remarkably high! An HVAC tech can start off making more than a teacher or a nurse, and it doesn’t require nearly as many years of education. HVAC work is a specialized skill set that you can study in a program at my local community college. You can’t learn it all in books and manuals, though, which is why HVAC students also work for a contractor to get some hands-on experience. Even more interesting to me than the starting pay, is that the demand for new HVAC techs has not gone down for years. In other words, HVAC technicians are in demand, and have been so for many years. In a volatile economy, it’s smart to find a job that is secure, and it seems that HVAC techs will be in high demand for many years to come.

I need to use my tax refund on HVAC repairs

This year I will be smarter with my tax refund.

I say this every year, and every year I make the same mistake.

When I get a large check in my hand, I cannot resist but to go to the liquor store and fill up my entire bar. Then I go to the cannabis dispensary and stock up on my greens, and after that usually the large check is about gone. This year will be different, because the last few months have been so miserable. The HVAC system was on the fritz at this time last year, but I already told you what happened to the tax refund I should have used to pay for repairs. The last two months have been miserable because the temps have been so cold outside, and my central heating is not working. The only thing I could afford to do to stave off freezing to death in my own home was buying a cheap space heater. It is barely strong enough for heating up one room, so I have to move it around with me and sit it next to wherever I sit down. I was too embarrassed to invite people over all winter long because I had no heating and my house never got above 60 degrees! By the time the refund check gets here the temps will be warmer, and I won’t be in such dire need of heating, so I worry I will squander the check again. I hope that I don’t waste it, because when summer arrives I will need a working A/C.

No accidental meeting is ever good.

Last year, I was involved in a minor accident.

Both cars were able to drive off the highway and there were no injuries, so the highway patrolman wrote it up as a minor no fault accident.

The other man had stopped dead, and I slammed into his truck. He said he was trying to see what the sign said that was on the mountain. The police shrugged it off. I looked at my car and realized coolant was running onto the ground, beneath my car. There was no way I was going to drive my car away, and if I could, I wouldn’t have air conditioning. On any morning when you wake up to eighty degree temperatures, you know you will have to have air conditioning. I picked up my phone to call AAA and I realized the battery was dead. I had to walk up to the highway patrolman and ask if I could use his phone. AAA promised to have a tow truck there within an hour, and in the meantime, all I could do was wait. I turned the car on, in hopes of getting air conditioning for as long as it took for the tow truck to get there, but I wasn’t to have that kind of luck. I sat in the car with the windows open, hoping to get a cool breeze from the cars going by. What I ended up with was a wild headache because of the car exhaust fumes. The man I hit stayed behind with me while I was waiting for the tow truck. As much as we hit it off as people, I still knew that no accidental meeting was a good one.

Duct cleaning

I just happened to bump into my HVAC technician.

When I left for work the other day, I never expected that I would be needing to call the HVAC company.

  • My car was running well and I had just the HVAC system replaced, so the cold weather wasn’t giving me any grief.

I was listening to the radio and glanced down at my phone for only a millisecond, but it was long enough to hit a car. I skidded and slid into a parked service van. I put my head, wondering how much this was going to cost me. I had insurance, but even if the owner didn’t, I was responsible for all the bills. I just hoped there wasn’t someone sitting inside when I put my car into their driver’s side door. When I looked up, I saw a familiar looking man in an HVAC uniform, looking in at me. He wanted to know if I was injured. When I realized I had just plowed into my regular HVAC technician, I almost died of embarrassment. I told him I was fine, but I felt horrible. I should have never looked at the phone when the emergency signal went off. He looked at his service van and said he couldn’t get it to the shop and he needed a ride if my car moved. When the homeowner came out, he told her everything was under control and we didn’t need the police or the ambulance. He pulled out his phone, took some photos of his service van, then we headed to the HVAC company. They sent a tow truck to pick up the service and took all my insurance information. Although they were all nice, I still couldn’t believe I had slammed into my HVAC technician.
