HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

We’ve had nothing but steady rain for the past few days.

Despite the nonstop downpour, the heat and humidity have not let up. I am extremely thankful that we finally replaced our HVAC system. My husband and I had been procrastinating over upgrading the packaged unit. Although it was old and no longer living up to expectations, we were reluctant to make such a big investment. The former unit continued to operate but continually malfunctioned. It struggled to manage the chilly winter weather, often freezing up, and the house often felt sticky during the middle of summer. We finally decided that it would be better to be proactive than to be left without temperature control at the worst possible time. Although purchasing and installing a new packaged heating and cooling unit was rather expensive, the process was quick and easy. The system was up and running in a single afternoon with no mess created. We chose to upgrade the thermostat at the same time, and the improvement has been significant. The savings on the monthly utility bills will help to recover the cost. The temperature from room to room is far more consistent, and we’ve noticed that there’s less dust and other contaminants floating around. I am just happy that my house is perfectly comfortable while we are trapped inside on these rainy days. I don’t need to worry about the air conditioner quitting in the middle of the night. Because of the new thermostat, I can make adjustments to temperature, fan speed and all kinds of features through an app on my phone.

I’ve been getting some crazy electric bills lately and it is making me wonder if my electric heater is using too much electricity to heat my flat.

• I need to go visit the old man in the store and see what he thinks about it.

He has been an HVAC specialist for longer than I have been alive so I think he will have an answer. I bet that he is going to tell me that a gas unit is the way to go because it is much cheaper than an electric one. I’m not sure how much they cost to change out but I am going to run down to the local contractor to see if they are open today. Okay, so I just came back from the store and they are not open today because it is Sunday. I am going to look online at gas heaters and compare their energy usage to the electric heater. I think I could get a gas tank installed and even heat the water in my house with it too. I have an old hot water heater with a rusty tank that could be changed for a new one. I think my water heater is using a lot of power too because I take hot baths after my morning swim each day and I know I am using a lot of power to heat the water. I need to take these baths though because when I get home from my swims I am freezing and need to heat my body up quickly.

I’m feeling a bit down today and not sure why but I am going to change my mindset now and switch to a better feeling.

• There is no use sulking for no reason so I just need to shift my frame of mind.

Maybe going down to the beach to watch the surfers will jar me out of this funk. Or I could get a few friends together and play a few games of volleyball on the beach near me. Maybe doing something productive like giving my HVAC equipment a tune up would put me in a better mood. I think in the winter the skies can get gray and get you down but you just need to think of all of the things you have and feel grateful for them. I could light some incense and turn on my air purifier to clean some of the smoke from the air and read a good book as the sun just popped out. I could pet my little black cat but it almost took my hand off last time I tried because it is still getting used to me and my place. Maybe I’ll turn on the heated floors as my feet are really cold and put on some fuzzy wool socks. I need to buy some new pants too because the ones I’ve been wearing are getting holes in them and looking really ragged. I think I will turn on my central heating unit and check the filter to make sure it is clean. I think it’s been months since doing so.

I stopped drinking my two daily beers yesterday to prove to myself that I am not hooked on it.

• My friends tell me that two beers a day is nothing but I want to just go a while without any booze and give my liver a break.

I think I will have more energy for doing things like tuning up my furnace and air conditioning, keeping the floors vacuumed, and doing my laundry more regularly. I get a bit lazy and I think that beer kind of makes me more lackadaisical about things so I am going to stop it for a while and see how my life changes. I need to change my air conditioning filters soon, speaking of change. I also hope the crypto world sees a change soon too because it has been in this bear market for a long time and it is getting old. I was going to buy a new HVAC system a few months back but now that I am down about 15K with cryptos I need to put everything on hold. I wish I waited until now to buy it because I would have saved a lot of money. I could have bought a new fireplace and HVAC system with that money I lost so far and still had a bunch left over in my bank account. We can’t see the future but I hope it holds some gold for us at the end of the rainbow, whenever and wherever that will be. I’m going to go and light a fire in my fireplace soon.
