I’m not so sure that I’m all that into living where I am. This is the first time I’ve ever lived in a gated community and I’m not sure it’s for me. Had I not made a really good investment, this wouldn’t be happening at all anyway. I was actually quite happy in the small 3 bedroom house I had prior to hitting it rich. In fact, just before that investment exploded, I had upgraded my home with a ductless multi split heating and cooling system. This is using a series of ductless heat pumps for the heating and cooling of my home. They worked out great as a matter of fact. It’s pretty cool because the condenser and compressor actually hide up under the eaves of that house. If I had the ductless heat pumps in my current home, I wouldn’t be getting hassled so much by the HOA. The fact is that the HOA is threatening all manner of actions because my HVAC cabinet is faded. That’s right, the HVAC cabinet has paint that has been faded by the sun. So they want me to replace it. That’s absurd as this residential HVAC still has more than a decade of life to it. I found that out from the HVAC professionals when I had them inspect the HVAC equipment prior to buying the house. I’ve offered to have the HVAC equipment painted or even suggested that I could put in a shrub. Regardless, I’m just not sure that I want to live in a community where people treat each other this way.

There is no doubt that getting scared awake is not the my preferred scenario at midnight. This is why I do stuff like filter our which people can make my phone ring in the middle of the night. When I hear something like the phone ring, I’m like immediately awake and can taste the adrenaline as I scramble for the phone. The same reaction appears to be appropriate when the gas furnace decides to shut down. There was a sound. And I wasn’t sure if I had really heard it or not. But it sounded like a big clank and it came from the basement where the HVAC equipment was. It was enough to get me fully out of bed and reaching for my robe. By the time I got out of my bedroom, I could tell that the HVAC heating was not running. And it was in the teens outside. I of course immediately began cussing myself for not remembering to get the HVAC heating maintenance done earlier in the fall. That HVAC maintenance was one of the things that fell through the cracks. And now, I was paying the price for that omission. There was really nothing I could do. The gas furnace would not restart and it was bitterly cold outside. So, I had to breakdown and call the HVAC company. The cost of the emergency HVAC service call was going to sting but there was no way I could wait until morning with a houseful of kids. The HVAC technician ended up fixing the HVAC in less than a half an hour. But the fact that it happened at all was something that didn’t allow me to fall back into my slumber that night.

There is no shame for me when it comes to cutting coupons or doing whatever I need to do to save on retail. I will kick up the air conditioning in my car and drive all the way across town to save money on stuff that we need in our house. I don’t live in some sort of heating and cooling cocoon so I’m well aware that we live in a very disposable society. The last time we upgraded the HVAC equipment in our home, we went with the latest when it comes to residential HVAC. It came with plenty of HVAC technology that was pretty new just seven years ago. Now, this sort of HVAC technology is pretty standard stuff. Just goes to show how much HVAC technology can change in such a short space of time.
