HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

He just knew he had to get a boiler running.

My fiance Max plus I had safety measures in place for almost any situation. Max and I knew what he and I would do if storms came through, or natural disasters occurred. The one thing Max and I hadn’t talked about was who was going to call the Heating plus Air Conditioning team, the cops, or an ambulance. When an ice storm hit our area earlier this Spring, Max and I were left with no power. When the power came back on, the water boiler wasn’t working. I remembered Max saying my great friend and I needed to know who was going to make iphone calls, however it hadn’t happened. Max and I were all looking at each other plus wondering who, if anyone, had called in the Heating plus Air Conditioning team? I didn’t want to call if someone else had, plus my wifey was thinking the very same thing. An hour later, there was a knock on the door. There was a local Heating plus Air Conditioning specialist, plus he said he was there to look at the boiler. Whoever made the call had been the first person to call the Heating plus Air Conditioning supplier before any other homeowners separate from a water boiler. I asked the Heating plus Air Conditioning expert who had called, plus he told us he didn’t know! He was given the address plus the name of the boss. He just knew he had to get a boiler running. About an hour later, my water boiler was working plus my great friend and I were able to take off our winter coats. Our young daughter came downstairs plus said it felt appealing inside! She grinned plus told her mom plus I to say thank you. She called the Heating plus Air Conditioning team. She knew no one else would do it, so she took on the job.

I had been seeing the weather for almost 3 weeks, then that was 3 weeks before my wedding… I wanted to make sure I had the perfect afternoon for my wedding, however it didn’t look like it was going to happen, because every forecast I looked at made it look like we were going to have an angry afternoon… Our local station was showing Ed and I could get the tail end of a hurricane… Depending on how close the storm came, Ed and I could have a charming plus cool afternoon.

We had to wait until the afternoon before the wedding before Ed and I even had a hint of what the weather was going to bring. I was glued to the television the afternoon before my wedding. I needed to know what was going to happen the next afternoon. The hurricane was downgraded, however the tropical storm was heading for us. They said the uneven temps would drop 10 to 15 degrees, however it was still going to be raining. I woke up to a blinding rain, high winds, plus a broken a/c. My fiance Ed was wondering what my great friend and I were going to do with his Grandparents, plus I was upset about all the missing guests, then an hour later, people were calling plus canceling their coming to our wedding. I was going to postpone the wedding! Without a/c, plus no caterer, Ed and I were stuck. I called the Heating plus Air Conditioning supplier plus asked if I could get my broken a/c unit repaired. The Heating plus Air Conditioning tech asked if Ed and I had a rowboat at the same time my fiance’s Grandparents came through the door. They were soaking wet plus asking if Ed and I had the heat on. They were our only guests.

I have one of those most new and undoubtedly up-to-date smart control units in my house for my central heating and a/c unit. I have had this smart control unit almost 6 months or so now. And the other afternoon I observed a major issue with the smart control unit. The timer that you program for it go on and off at a particular time was off by about 10 minutes. This was a problem and not normal. I knew at this point I had to do one of 2 things. The first would be to just split my losses and go out to buy a brand new smart control unit. The other would be to call the local heating and a/c contractor to send out a certified heat and air conditioning specialist to repair the timer and programmer of the smart control unit that goes with my central heating and a/c unit. I decided to call the local heating and a/c contractor first to see how much they would charge to come out and try to repair whatever was going on with my smart control unit. And after them quoting the price I had just gave up and decided that it would be way cheaper to just go out to the store and buy a brand new smart control unit and then bring it house and reinstall it myself. This would save me hundreds of dollars compared to what the local heating and a/c contractor wanted to come out and repair my smart control unit’s programmer. It just was not worth it.

When I started getting major problems with my a/c unit, I already knew I wanted a new one. My AC component was nearly fifteen years old, which is the average life of a common AC unit. I did own one that lasted longer, however it was an anomaly. It lasted for almost twenty two years, & I never had any major breakdowns. My friend Cal and I had a few that were normal, like a broken fan blade, needing the coolant filled up & my personal negligence in changing air filters. This was the worst complication Cal and I had with the a/c… Forgetting to change the air filter caused an airflow problem. Cal and I ended up needing some repairs done, & Cal and I also had to have the HVAC duct cleaned. I assumed the HVAC duct needed to be deep-cleaned for several years, & noticed a large change in the smell & feel of the air flow once the HVAC duct cleaners left. When the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro arrived to inspect the AC unit, he told me he could repair the AC unit. I told him I didn’t want any further repairs made. I wanted a new a/c unit. He looked at me like I was crazy. After saying that I knew how old the AC component was, & I knew this was just the start, he shook his head sadly. He told me it would be a minor repair, however I knew how my airflow and power was diminishing. I wanted the new a/c component before the weather got too hot and humid to go an hour separate from a/c, let alone needing to go 2 or more afternoons.
