HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

I knew I needed a new steam boiler before winter time arrived. What I wanted to know was what was wrong with the last heater I used. If it was something I did that needed to change that could have changed the situation, I should know about it. Kenny started talking about AC parts & furnace terms I wouldn’t understand. I reminded him I wasn’t a Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro & asked him to dumb it down when he started using technical terms. Once Kenny mentioned carbon monoxide poisoning, I knew it was serious. Kenny told me about the one component where off-gasses were held. When that heating component broke, formaldehyde, components & calling them by names I didn’t understand. I wouldn’t talk to Kenny about carbon monoxide, & other gasses would escape. Instead of trying to repair the component, it is generally advocated you buy a newer heater. I wanted to know why I could not purchase a new one? The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro told me to buy the component & have it installed, would be almost the same cost as a new heater. There was a reason why the heat exchanger cracked, & he didn’t want it to happen ever again. This I understood, & told him to bring us a new heater. I just wanted to know why it was needed to get a new steam boiler installed. Once he explained, in words I understood, I was okay with it. I didn’t like the idea of having a new steam boiler installed, because of how lavish it was. I had to have a heater, & I told Kenny I wanted to wait a couple of months when last season’s steam boilers were on sale.

When I called the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C team last week, it was because the new a/c component hadn’t been working well.

• It was only a year old, so I could not imagine there could be a major complication with the new AC unit.

It was still under warranty. My friends and I had changed the HEPA air filter, & the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro named Max had recently serviced the a/c. I was sure Max would have found a complication when he did the service, if it was serious. Two afternoons later, the same Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro arrived to look at the a/c. Max shook his head when he walked in, because he had been the one who did the installation. Max could not suppose I was already having problems. Max went outside & looked at the a/c unit. When he came back inside, he looked perplexed. Max told me I needed a new a/c unit. I was sure he was kidding. The a/c component was not even a year old. How could it possibly need to be replaced? Max told me they had some recalls on this AC unit, & the recalls were what was affecting my AC unit. Max had to order a new a/c unit, however it wasn’t going to cost me a penny. I just needed to make sure the a/c component was different, & not the same one my pals and I already had. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional assured me that it was only certain models, & I just happened to have one of them. They would provide me with a better model of AC component that was not on the recall list, & it would labor well for us.

I missed our local Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro when he left town.

I didn’t know why the pro moved, however most of the people in our section wanted to know what happened.

My friend Max and I soon learned he got married & moved near to where her family lived. It has now been almost three years, & I heard he has returned. There were several major changes that included having a new little girl, & he was now the owner of a local Heating, Ventilation, & A/C company. Max thought it was good to have some competition for the only Heating, Ventilation, & A/C company up until now. When Max advocated that he and I called the new Heating, Ventilation, & A/C company & ask them to repair our a/c unit, I was surprised. Max said it may be a good thing to check out the new company. I thought it would be easier to head online & see if they had a website, although he balked. Max didn’t think a website could tell you who the owner was, or what kind of repair it would give. I still went on Google to look for Heating, Ventilation, & A/C companies near me. I found a website for our new Heating, Ventilation, & A/C company & a website for the newer one. The difference in their websites was like night & afternoon. I knew who the new owner was, & I had an idea of what kind of supplier he ran. I felt safe calling them & putting my Heating, Ventilation, & A/C components in their capable hands. Max still wasn’t convinced I could be so sure of the efficacy of the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C team through a website, although he knew the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro before he was an owner. That was enough for him.

I thought the new Ventilation pro was joking when he introduced himself.

He was new to me, & I didn’t remember seeing him around.

I asked him if the guy had just recently moved in? When he said he was from Mars, I didn’t know what to say. I invited him in & showed him where the a/c system was. It didn’t take him long to get to labor & get the a/c component repaired. I was giggling when he came inside & asked if he was serious about moving here from Mars, & he said sure. I could not imagine why Martians would come out with that kind of news. I paid him & could not wait for him to leave. When my hubby Jim got home, I was in a tizzy. I told Jim our Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional told me he had just come from Mars. Jim didn’t think there was anything wrong with this, & he shrugged & walked away. My mind was pulled in many unusual instructions, I didn’t know what to do. I called my best neighbor & asked if she had met the new Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro? She admitted she had & said there was something weird about him, although she believed it was because he was new in town. When I told her he told me he was from the planet Mars, she blew it off. I was laughing at myself when I realized Mars was a town in Pennsylvania. I felt beyond stupid, & I was ashamed to tell Jim I thought the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C pro came from the planet Mars.
