I like to frequent local businesses whenever possible, in part because this is a habit that my parents forced me into at a young age.

They hammered into my brain the method that small businesses in a single’s community are always superior to large chains on an ethical and moral level.

Sadly, these values are continually eroded when I have disappointing experiences with mom and pop category companies that are no better than the most ruthless venture capitalists raking in billions of dollars. You can be middle class and still be a relentless thief with your purchasers. One time a local pharmacist tried to steal a prescription of mine that was a few mornings worth of pain medicine following an overnight trip to the hospital with a kidney stone. They confirmed it wasn’t appendicitis and gave me lots of fluid and a special medication that stimulates your urinary system. I had to get the police involved and they confiscated his security camera hard drives, and I was surprised to learn he was dumb enough to record himself in the act. What made me even more amazed was reading that they found incriminating evidence of 15 other incidences of medicine theft. He was stripped of his license and arrested immediately. Now I get all of my medicine at a local grocery store that also has a pharmacy at the front like several chain grocery stores. I was distraught when they had to close for a day recently to handle Heating and A/C repairs throughout the whole building. Their heating and cooling systems were already 25 years seasoned at that point and insurance companies will force you to change them or will void your coverage.

Unlike some of my friends, I put off moving out of my parents’ home for a number of years.

I finally moved across the country for the first time this year.

It wasn’t my plan, however my partner & I were forced into a difficult situation when his former supervisor filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.

He had to look for work within his industry in any neighborhood through the United States to cast as wide of a net as humanly possible. At first every one of us thought that we’d be forced to compromise & transfer someplace up north where it feels prefer the arctic tundra for a fine section of the year, however the opposite ended up being the case. We had to relocate to an seriously hot & humid section in the south. Sadly, every one of us don’t have the benefit of living close to the ocean & having the sea breezes to contend with as some agent against the sun’s rays. It’s downright angry down here in August & November when temperatures reach their apex in the day hours for the entire year. I had very little experience with young children before I had our own. I was the youngest child in a family of six, plus I was never keen on the method of baby sitting when I got to high university plus needed section time toil to acquire currency. I didn’t want to be the parent that put a lockbox on the control unit, despite the fact that I had no choice. I can’t afford to buy a new a/c or oil furnace just because our children don’t respect our rules.
