HVAC Repair Tips for Homeowners

I would highly suggest if you have a lot of leaves and debris getting into your heating and cooling system, then you should get a HVAC cover. For a long time, I didn’t have an A/C cover, and because of that, I would have all kinds of things get stuck in their air conditioning unit. For the most part, a lot of it was harmless, but as it built up over time, it began to cause some issues. Or if a particularly big limb somehow managed to get stuck in the A/C machine, then it would cause the air conditioner to make a horrible noise. I usually would have to pay for a heating and air conditioning specialist to come out and clean the entire system out, and it just becomes a big hassle. So then I started looking into HVAC covers and I am so glad that I did. If you look online, there are many different types and sizes available. You have to find the right size for your air conditioning system, but there is one really important thing to consider. That is making sure the heating and cooling cover is breathable. If you get an A/C cover that is not breathable, it can actually suffocate your air conditioning system! I made sure the A/C cover that I bought was made from mesh and had plenty of ventilation. Ever since then, all I have to do now is blow off all of the leaves that pile on top, and the inside of the A/C remains clean.

Without fail, every summer and winter the heating and A/C professionals are always going to be busy.

The reason is because a lot of people either wait or they don’t get HVAC tune ups at all, and then their air conditioning device can’t handle the summer heat and breaks down. That is when people call the A/C corporations in droves requesting from their A/C machines to be repaired. This is why I specifically make sure to get annual HVAC maintenance every year, twice a year to try and avoid these issues. However, even though I take a lot of precautions, sometimes accidents still happen. My air conditioning system still ended up breaking down, and unfortunately it did happen to be summer. I knew ahead of time the wait was going to be long, and it was frustrating that the previous HVAC appointment I had a few months ago, the A/C specialist told me everything looked fine. However, on the bright side this is the first break down I have had in several years. So I did what I needed to do and called the A/C corporation and scheduled an appointment, the appointment wasn’t for another 2 weeks. Thankfully, even though it was summer, it actually wasn’t really hot outside, so those 2 weeks flew by. The A/C specialist finally came over and repaired the air conditioning system for me. After the A/C technician fixed my air conditioning system, I was able to have the comfort of the A/C again and I am so happy.

Sometimes as a heating and air conditioning professional, you see some interesting things. I don’t really care about what people’s homes look like, but there are some places that stick out. One person had literal mounds of boxes, plastic bags and old wrappers piled up in their living room. The guy just told me to step over all of it. The boxes and everything was literally up to the ceiling. I have also seen places that were incredibly luxurious as well, with spiral staircases and columns. Anyways, I had an interesting experience not that long ago. A guy ordered a part for the air conditioning system. He had previously had another one of our A/C technicians look at his heater and tell him the part he needed. He successfully found and bought the right part, but he made the mistake when he tried to replace it himself. The guy called and complained a day or so later and was saying that the new part didn’t do anything for his furnace system. So I went out to look at what the problem was, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The guy literally duct taped the HVAC part to the heating system. I had to carefully explain to him that you had to put the new part inside of the heating device, not on the outside. After I replaced the part for him, his HVAC unit went back to working as it should and I was able to go to my next heating and A/C appointment. Sometimes people just baffle me.

I was getting to the point where I couldn’t afford to spend more money on the heating and air conditioning device.

The HVAC machine wasn’t even that old, but since its previous owners did not take very good care of it.

So I think because of that it is going out early. I have paid for multiple different HVAC repairs and HVAC part replacements, but there is only so much you can do. I am running out of options for the old HVAC device, and I am beginning to think that I am going to need a new one soon. I didn’t want to immediately jump into buying a new central HVAC unit, but I wanted to go ahead and call the local A/C corporation to get a quote anyway. I called around a few different HVAC businesses before I found one with the best price. The price was still fairly expensive, but it was doable, I would just have to start taking longer hours at work and saving up. I decided to also call a good friend of mine and ask what they would do if they were in my situation. They told me they would also go ahead and get the new heating and air conditioning system, because the way they look at it, I am only wasting money on the current A/C when I know it is going to go out eventually. This is true, and the more I think about it the more it makes sense to just go ahead and replace the air conditioning unit, instead of waiting so long.
